Participating Institutions
Transfer opportunities are offered by institutions that have active transfer agreements and are part of the Alberta Transfer System (ATS). The institution you want to transfer to (the "receiving institution") makes the final decision about transfer credit, and will base their decision on the entrance requirements and learning outcomes for your chosen program.
Transfer decisions involving member and non-member institutions are available on the Transfer Alberta Search Tool and Mobile App.

University Transfer Programs
University transfer programs allow you to begin a degree-level program at a college or university and then transfer to an institution with an accredited degree program. For example, MacEwan University offers a first-year engineering program that you can use to ladder into University of Alberta degree programs. Some things to consider include:
- When transferring, you must meet all the admission requirements of the institution, such as having the appropriate high school courses and marks
- Completion of the first or second year of a university transfer program does not guarantee admission to degree programs at universities or private colleges
Specific Program Transfers
Specific program transfers include:
- Biological Sciences
- Engineering (one year program only)
- Nursing
- Education
- Kinesiology/Physical Education
Post-secondary institutions may offer or accept other program transfers in subjects such as Commerce.
Upgrading Courses
If you lack a required admission course or the required admission average for the program you want, then you may choose to do some upgrading. Many of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions offer academic upgrading courses that are accepted for admission into undergraduate level degree programs, certificates and diplomas.
Ordering Your Transcripts
Students transferring between Alberta public institutions will automatically have their transcripts ordered for them via the ApplyAlberta system.
Students transferring across provincial boundaries will be responsible for ordering their own high school and post-secondary transcripts.
